July is oftentimes the hottest month of the year. Are you and your home ready to beat the heat this July?
Check out these tips to ensure that you and your home stay safe amidst the summer heat:
#1 Inspect damages in outdoor spaces.
Maybe you and your family like to enjoy BBQ on the backyard patio or morning coffee on the front porch. If so, be sure that you inspect these outdoor space for any damages, like broken railings or floorboards.
Not only can these damages pose injury risk to you and your family, but also some damages may be exacerbated by the heat.Â
#2 If you are grilling, know where the fire extinguisher is located.
Should something go wrong with your grill, it is critical that you know where the fire extinguisher is located.Â
And, you will want to keep your grill at a safe distance from your home, deck, and foliage. Use proper grilling equipment for cleaning and cooking.
Also, for safety reasons, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your grill.
#3 Choose proper cooling systems.
If you do not have central air conditioning or window units, you might use floor fans.
No matter what device/s you use to keep your home cool, be sure to follow all instructions prescribed by the manufacturer. Also, keep track of when and where these systems are on/off.
#4 Monitor gas appliances.
If your home contains gas appliances, be sure that you taking the proper precautions. Some of these precautions include, but are not limited to:Â
·     Install and regularly test carbon monoxide alarms.
·     Schedule regular professional inspections and maintenance of these appliances.
·     Follow all instructions prescribed by the appliance manufacturer.
